The Cheetah Stand QPB-48 Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System produces multiple looks of light with one easy to setup light modifier. The QPB-48 Deep Parabolic Softbox Includes the Cheetah Focusing System MKII for full control of your light source.

The Cheetah Stand QPB-48 Deep Parabolic Softbox is constructed with light weight fiberglass rods unlike our competitors that use a metal rods for additional durability that lock open from the back to hold the shape of the soft-box.

The Focusing System is an aluminum rod that slides back and forth with light mounted at the end.  This allows for multiple configurations allowing the QPB-48 Deep Parabolic Softbox to produce a hard direct light source, or soft light that envelopes your subject.  This is similar to a flashlight where you can control the beam from a spot light to a flood light.

The exterior is a tough, flexible material that is tear-resistant and water-resistant, 2-layers of diffusion, 2x2x2 egg-crate grid and a reflector plate and includes a port to run a power wire for those power-hungry light sources.

All Cheetah QPB-48 deep parabolic softboxes and the Focusing System will use a Bowen Speed Ring but can be exchanged with Profoto, Alienbee and Elinchrom Speed Rings for maximum compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System FAQ Welcome to our FAQ section dedicated to the Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System! Here, we'll answer your most pressing questions about this essential piece of photography softbox equipment, designed to elevate your softbox photography to new heights.
1. What exactly is a Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System?
A Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System is an advanced light modifier used in photography softbox setups. Unlike traditional softboxes, it features a unique deep parabolic shape that, when combined with a special focusing rod, allows for unparalleled control over your light. This system transforms a single softbox for light into a versatile tool, capable of producing a wide range of lighting effects from incredibly soft and diffused to highly focused and dramatic.
2. How does the Deep Parabolic structure benefit my photography?
The Deep Parabolic structure is key to achieving incredible shadow and rich lighting. Its unique design funnels light in a concentrated manner, resulting in a more controlled and directional light source than standard softboxes. This allows photographers to create beautiful, sculpted light with a natural fall-off, adding depth and dimension to their subjects. It's particularly effective for portraits, fashion, and beauty softbox photography.
3. What makes the fiberglass rods in this softbox more durable?
Our Deep Parabolic Softbox utilizes more durable fiberglass rods that help maintain the deep parabolic structure. Unlike conventional metal rods which can bend or break, fiberglass offers superior flexibility and resilience. This ensures the softbox retains its precise parabolic shape over time, even with frequent setup and breakdown, providing consistent light quality and extending the lifespan of your photography softbox.
4. What is the Focusing Rod, and how does it offer "infinite lighting solutions"?
The Focusing Rod is a unique aluminum rod that allows for infinite lighting solutions in a single softbox for light. This aluminum rod slides back and forth with the light source mounted at its end. By adjusting the position of your light along this rod, you can change the quality and spread of the light output. Moving the light deeper into the softbox creates a more focused, punchy light with higher contrast, while pulling it further out results in a softer, broader, and more diffused illumination. This versatility is a game-changer for creative softbox photography.
5. How does the Reflector Plate reduce hot-spots?
The included Reflector Plate is strategically placed within the softbox to help reduce hot-spots. A hot-spot occurs when the bare light source creates an overly bright, concentrated area of light, leading to uneven illumination. The reflector plate redirects and disperses this direct light, ensuring a more even spread of light across the entire front diffusion panel of the photography softbox, ultimately producing smoother and more flattering light.
6. What is an Egg-Crate Grid, and why is it included?
An Egg-Crate Grid (also known as a honeycomb grid) is a fabric accessory that attaches to the front of the softbox. It's designed to control light spill and narrow the beam of light. By limiting the spread of light, the grid enhances contrast and saturation, creating a more dramatic and focused effect. This is particularly useful in softbox photography when you want to isolate your subject and prevent light from affecting the background.
7. Is this Deep Parabolic Softbox easy to set up and transport for on-location photography?
Yes, many Deep Parabolic Softboxes with Focusing Systems are designed for rapid setup and easy portability. Features like quick-open mechanisms and durable carrying bags make them ideal for both studio and on-location photography softbox use. The fiberglass rods, being lighter and more resilient, also contribute to the overall ease of transport.
8. What kind of light quality can I expect from this system compared to a standard softbox?
Compared to a standard softbox, a Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System offers a more versatile and refined light quality. Due to its unique shape and the ability to adjust the light source's position with the focusing rod, you can achieve everything from a hard, dramatic light with sharp shadows to an incredibly soft, wrapping light that beautifully renders skin tones and details. It provides a greater degree of control for artistic softbox photography.
9. Can I use different light sources with this Deep Parabolic Softbox?
Most Deep Parabolic Softboxes with Focusing Systems come with an interchangeable speedring system (commonly Bowens mount), allowing compatibility with a wide range of studio strobes, monolights, and continuous LED lights. This ensures that your investment in this softbox for light can be utilized with your existing lighting equipment.
10. How does the focusing system affect the "hardness" or "softness" of the light?
The focusing system directly impacts the hardness or softness of the light. When the light is positioned further into the deep parabolic softbox, the light rays are highly concentrated and collimated, resulting in a harder, more specular light with distinct shadows. As you move the light out along the focusing rod, the light spreads out more within the softbox, creating a larger effective light source that yields a softer, more diffused light with gentler shadows. This dynamic control is a core benefit for sophisticated photography softbox setups.
11. What are the advantages of using fiberglass rods over metal rods for the softbox structure?
The advantages of more durable fiberglass rods are significant. Fiberglass rods are lighter, more flexible, and less prone to bending or breaking compared to traditional metal rods. This ensures the softbox maintains its precise deep parabolic shape for optimal light shaping, even after repeated assembly and disassembly. Their resilience also makes them more resistant to damage during transport or accidental bumps, contributing to the longevity of your softbox for light.
12. Is the Deep Parabolic Softbox suitable for all types of photography?
While highly versatile, the Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System truly excels in genres where precise light control and beautiful shadow rendition are paramount. This includes portraiture, fashion, beauty, product photography, and fine art photography. Its ability to produce both dramatic and incredibly soft light makes it adaptable to a wide array of creative visions in softbox photography. For general all-purpose lighting, a standard softbox might suffice, but for elevated results, the deep parabolic system shines.
13. How does the Egg-Crate Grid enhance directional control in photography softbox setups?
The Egg-Crate Grid enhances directional control by absorbing light that would otherwise spill out uncontrollably. By segmenting the front of the photography softbox, the grid channels the light forward in a more focused beam. This allows you to precisely illuminate your subject while minimizing light on the background or other areas you wish to keep in shadow, creating more dramatic and intentional lighting setups.
14. What maintenance is required for a Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System?
Maintaining your Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System is relatively straightforward. Regularly inspect the fiberglass rods for any signs of wear or damage. Keep the interior silver lining clean to ensure optimal light reflection. The exterior fabric can usually be wiped down with a damp cloth. Proper packing and storage in the provided carrying bag will protect the softbox for light and its components from dust and damage, prolonging its lifespan and ensuring consistent performance in your softbox photography.
15. Why should I invest in a Deep Parabolic Softbox with Focusing System over other light modifiers?
Answer
